In Maundy Thursday services, believers often share Communion, a meal with bread and wine to remember the Last Supper. Some customs include Tenebrae service, a Seder meal, and stripping the sanctuary. This day is significant as it recalls Jesus and His disciples celebrating their final Passover, where Jesus humbly washed his disciples’ feet.
Good Friday: 29 March 2024
Good Friday is a Gazetted Holiday in India. This day falls on the Friday before Easter Sunday. It is a solemn and significant day for Christians around the world. It commemorates the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and his death at Calvary. On this day, practising Christians perform scripture readings, sermons, and hymns in the Church. Also, some believers abstain from certain foods or pleasures as a form of mourning and penance.
On this public holiday, people get the opportunity to reflect on their moral values through different traditions. Even though traditions differ in different parts of India, Good Friday in the country represents a shared respect for religious diversity and a moment of collective calm amidst daily chaos.
