Jagadish Chandra Bose Scholarship is granted to Class 10 and Class 12 students in West Bengal. This scholarship is awarded by the Jagadish Bose National Science Talent Search (JBNSTS). 

The organization awards two scholarships: JBNSTS Junior Scholarships for students who have cleared Class 10 and are enrolled in Class 11 and JBNSTS Senior Scholarships to Class 12 students who have or are planning to pursue undergraduate courses in West Bengal.

These scholarships are granted to science students only. To avail of these scholarships, students have to apply on the official website of the organization and appear for a series of tests. Jagadish Chandra Bose Scholarship Eligibility Criteria

JBNSTS has defined certain eligibility requirements for Class 10 and Class 12 students in West Bengal who are applying for the Junior and Senior Scholarships. 

JBNSTS Bigyani Kanya Medha Britti (Junior)

Here are the application requirements for students of this category:

  • The applicant should be female
  • She must have completed her 10th Class board or an equivalent examination from an accredited educational institution with exemplary marks
  • She must be currently enrolled in Class 11 in the Science stream in a recognized school/college

Applicants under this category must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • She/they/he must have completed Madhyamik Siksha or 10th Class or an equivalent exam in the preceding year (in 2022 if applying for Jagdish Chandra Bose Scholarship 2023).
  • She/they/he must have secured a minimum of 75% in aggregate
  • She/they/he should be enrolled in the 11th Class in Science stream in the present year in any school/college in West Bengal
  • She/they/he should have chosen any of the 3 subjects from the Science stream viz; Biology, Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, Computer Science, and Statistics

JBNSTS Bigyani Kanya Medha Britti (Senior)

To qualify for this Jagadish Chandra Bose Scholarship, the applicant must meet the following requirements:

  • The candidate must be a female
  • She must have cleared 12th Class from a certified education board with outstanding marks
  • She must be admitted to any Science Degree Course in any college or university in West Bengal

Any applicant for JBNSTS Senior Talent Search is required to adhere to the following criteria:

  • She/they/he must have either cleared 12th Class or be currently enrolled in this class
  • She/they/he must procure admission to a Science undergraduate course 
  • She/they/he must opt for their UG studies in any university/college in West Bengal

To apply for JBNSTS Junior and Senior scholarships, students need to follow a certain process. It is therefore advisable to go through the following steps for successful registration for JBNSTS Junior or JBNSTS Senior Scholarships.

Here is a step-by-step guide to applying for JBNSTS Junior scholarships:

  • Go to the official website of Jagadis Bose National Science Talent Search
  • Choose the “Apply online application for JBNSTS Junior Talent Search Test/ Junior Bigyani Kanya Medha Briti’ option
  • After clicking on this option, a web page will appear. Fill out the details on this page.
  • Thereafter, select the ‘Click here to get registered’ tab
  • Fill out the required fields on the Registration page and click on the ‘Click here to get registered’ tab at the bottom of the page
  • After successful registration and submission of the application form save the credentials for future reference

Class 10 and Class 12 students must prepare from their respective course books either NCERT textbooks or West Bengal Education Board prescribed books to excel in JBNSTS Talent Search Examination. 

JBNSTS Bigyani Kanya Medha Britti (Junior)/ Junior Talent Search

To appear for JBNSTS Junior Talent Search Test and JBNSTS Bigyani Kanya Medha Britti (Junior) Test, applicants must be thorough with the Class 10 curriculum of NCERT textbooks of the following subjects:

Exam Pattern

Both exams are for 120 minutes/2 hours. These tests are for a total of 90 marks. Marks distribution for different subjects are tabulated below:

Jagadish Chandra Bose Scholarship Selection Process

JBNSTS selects eligible candidates for Junior scholarships through two rounds: a written Test and a Personal Interview. However, there is an additional step in Senior scholarship tests. Candidates appearing for JBNSTS are selected on the basis of a written test, a personal interview, and a scientific creativity test.

Jagdish Chandra Bose Scholarship Awards

Jagadish Bose National Science Talent Search awards remuneration to selected candidates. Some amount is awarded on a monthly basis and a certain amount is granted annually. Details of this scholarship award are mentioned in the following sections.

  • INR 1250/month for two academic years i.e; 11th and 12th Classes
  • INR 2500 book grant annually for Classes 11 and 12
