AILET PG Preparation Tips

The National Law University conducts the AILET PG exam every year for its intake into the one-year LLM course which is a postgraduate Law course. AILET PG is the acronym for All India Law Entrance Test for Post Graduation. This exam is a national-level examination for entrance into the LLM program from NLU Delhi. The examination aspirants need to prepare for English language, Law subjects, and legal reasoning. The examination contains both objective-type and subjective-type questions. The duration of the exam is 90 minutes which the candidate needs to complete by answering 50 MCQs and 2 out of 10 descriptive questions.

AILET PG Preparation Tips for Section A

Section A of the AILET PG exam consists of 50 MCQ questions. There are essentially two parts to section A as given in the table below.

Preparation Tips for Part I

Part I contains questions relating to the student’s capability of understanding and reproducing the English language. So, there must be a rigorous practice of English grammar. This part tests the students for their ability to speak and write in English. Thus, English proficiency in grammar and comprehension is being tested. The tips given below will help the students to prepare for English language proficiency and ace the same.

  • Learn new words every day. 
  • Make a target of learning at least 5 new words per day.
  • Make flashcards to help you remember words faster.
  • Read the newspaper on a daily basis.
  • After building vocabulary, make a habit to use them on a daily basis.

Preparation Tips for Part II

Part II contains questions relating to the student’s understanding of laws and their daily application in the real world. Thus, this part tests the students’ growth as legal professionals. To ace this part it is advised that the students follow the below-mentioned tips and tricks.

  • Knowledge is the key. So, read as many news, magazines, and articles relating to legal subjects as possible.
  • Students should focus more on blood relations, logical sequence, syllogism, and analogies.
  • Practice, practice, practice. Solve as many test papers as possible. Sit for mock tests and revisit the previous years’ question papers.
  • Solve more puzzle-related questions.

AILET PG Preparation Tips for Section B

Section B of the AILET PG exam consists of 10 descriptive questions that focus on various subjects under the umbrella term Law. the students have to choose only 2 questions. However, the mark for answering these two questions is 75. This makes Knowledge and Practice in law-related subjects very essential. The tips given below will help you to have great preparation for Section B.

  • NLU Delhi loves giving recent case laws. So, have a good read of at least 2-3 recent case laws that are having significant judgments.
  • Criminal Law carries the maximum weightage in the exam. Thus, focus on cases that have some complicated judgments where IPC and CrPc have been used.
  • Concepts of Constitutional Law and Jurisprudence have a good weightage. These are to be used for the analytical questions.
  • Build a strong foundation of Polity and Law.

Marking Scheme of AILET PG Exam

The most significant thing about the marking scheme of the AILET PG exam is that the evaluation of Section B hugely depends on the performance in Section A. A student has to score 50% or above in each of the two parts in Section A to get Section B evaluated. This gives a greater preference for the general understanding of communication and law for the students to get into the LLM program at National Law University. The final rank list will be prepared based on the combined marks obtained in Section A and Section B.

How do you crack AILET PG?

The key to cracking the AILET PG exam is to master the speed and accuracy of answering the MCQs that are 100 in number. The students can easily master these two attributes by solving as many sample papers as possible. Also, it is advised that the students go through the question papers of the previous years and solve them rigorously. These will improve the time-management capability of the students and also make them quick problem solvers.

Is 1 month enough for AILET PG?

Yes. The students can target AILET PG with just one month of preparation time in hand. This is however possible only through a strategy of preparation. Schedules make the preparation easier within a short time to prepare for different sections that constitute the MCQs. However, for the descriptive questions, prior knowledge of the students on the subject is required.
