Prithviraj Chauhan is most remembered for the big battles he fought, especially against a ruler named Muhammad Ghori. These battles were very important and showed how brave Prithviraj was. But in the end, one of these battles led to his defeat and death.

The First Battle of Tarain (1191)

In this battle, Prithviraj Chauhan successfully defeated Muhammad Ghori, halting his advance into northern India temporarily. Prithviraj’s forces used effective military strategies and superior cavalry, forcing Ghori to retreat.

  • One such instance says that he was defeated by Mohammad Ghuri on the battlefield in Taraoi led by the latter with the Ghurid army. Although it is said that Prithviraj Chauhan ran away from the battlefield he was later captured at Sirsa and was executed by the forces.

  • A Muslim historian Hasan Nizami has mentioned that Prithviraj was caught conspiring against Muhammad, who promoted this Ghurid King to order his army to behead the Rajput ruler. However, the nature of further death is not mentioned by the historian. 
  • As per the information available in Prabandhan Chintamani, Muhammad took him to Ajmer in order to let him rule as the vassal but on his way, he found paintings depicting Muslims killed by pigs which made him angry and instigated to beheading Prithviraj Chauhan.
