Another arch-nemesis of Jahangir was Malik Ambar, an African slave who rose to become a powerful statesman and military leader in the Deccan region. Jahangir faced repeated challenges from Ambar’s forces, leading to a protracted conflict that tested the Mughal emperor’s military skills.

Rebellion of Shah Jahan

Prince Khurram, dissatisfied with his father’s rule, rebelled against Jahangir in 1622. Known as the War of Succession, this conflict divided the Mughal court and led to a prolonged civil war. Also known as Shah Jahan, the son of Jahangir and future emperor of the Mughal Empire, also posed a threat to his father’s rule. In a bid to assert his claim to the throne, Shah Jahan rebelled against Jahangir, leading to a bitter power struggle within the royal family. 

During Jahangir’s reign, there were several battles and conflicts, leading to questions about who ultimately defeated Jahangir. However, the conflict between father and son was eventually resolved through a combination of diplomacy and military action.
