The full form of NEET is the National Eligibility Com Entrance Test. It is a single-level national test given to applicants seeking admission to medical programmes at the nation’s various medical institutions. As of 2020, the exam will be the single medical entrance exam required for admission to AIIMS and JIPMER institutions, replacing the existing system of several entrance exams administered at the state level.
As part of the One Nation One Examination strategy, the Indian government established NEET as a proposal to replace several tests with a single exam. The sole medical admission examination at now is NEET, an offline test administered using a pen-and-paper format.

History of NEET
The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) serves as a nationwide medical entrance exam in India. Established in 2013 by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), it aimed to bring consistency to all medical entrance tests throughout the nation. NEET superseded the AIPMT (All India Pre-Medical Test) and various examinations at the state level.
The NEET exam is conducted in English, Hindi and eight additional regional languages. It is designed for entry into undergraduate medical programs (MBBS) in both public and private medical institutions nationwide. In 2018, approximately 1.3 lakh students took the NEET exam.

Eligibility Criteria for NEET
Below mentioned is the eligibility criteria for NEET:
- The minimal educational criterion for students to be eligible to take the NEET is passing their class 12 board exams from a recognised institution.
- To gain all the information, candidates are advised to read the NEET eligibility requirements listed on the official website.
- Additionally, a student must be in the science stream and major in Biology/Biotechnology, Physics, Chemistry, or Mathematics.
- A score of at least 50% is required. To obtain a seat at undergraduate medical institutions, one must be required to pass the examination.

Who Conducts NEET?
Under the direction of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, NTA (National Testing Agency) conducts NEET each year. NTA’s only focus is on administering the test and giving the DGHS the findings. All India Pre-Medical Test, or AIPMT for short, was totally superseded by NEET as of 2017.
