- Based on the performance in the UPSC Main Examination and the Interview, a final merit list is prepared by the UPSC. Candidates with high ranks are allotted positions in various government services, including the IAS.
- After selection, candidates will undergo training at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration in Mussoorie or other designated academies.
- Upon completion of training, selected candidates will be assigned a posting in a district as a Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM). Over time, based on performance and promotions they can be appointed as an ADM.
