Struggles that Made her Stronger

In Junior high, she was singled out and bullied due to her appearance and her liking for country music. “They didn’t think I was cool or pretty enough, so they stopped talking to me” and “They’d make fun of me,” she told Teen Vogue in an interview when she was 19.

In 2009 after she had given out 2 successful albums – Taylor Swift and Fearless, her acceptance speech for Best female video at MTV Video Music Awards was interrupted by Kanye West. She had to go through a lot of anxiety and trolling to get through in the later years due to her reputation in the media which was very hurtful for her. Her masters being bought by others and losing the rights to 7/9 of her albums was another blow that was very hard for her. Along with the story of her harassment and lawsuit that she filed she tells all about her struggles throughout her years in a documentary Miss Americana available on Netflix. Even after being through so many ups and downs she never gave up and kept going on to become a songwriter and singer worth $365 Million as noted by Forbes in October 2020.

The Swift Towards a Stronger Self

Taylor says “People haven’t always been there for me but music always has” and therefore she made music her weapon and her own life the inspiration behind her songs. “With Reputation, I wanted to keep my head down, not say anything, but work harder than I ever worked. It was really motivational for me to just have the stadium tour to prepare for and prove myself almost. My career was in a weird spot” She continued. “I was thinking, if anything can pull me out of this weird disillusionment I have with the way that things have gone in my career that I was feeling back then, I knew it would be playing live. If I could be proud of the live show and if I could feel that connection with fans, that would remind me of why I love this.” Her album reputation turned out to be a catharsis of sorts and was a hell of a comeback. Her next albums Lover, Folklore and Evermore were similarly successful as her other albums and resonated with her matured mindset with healing and beautiful melodies enchanting the fans and the world alike. Her transition reflects in her music as well.

“There are two ways you can go with pain: You can let it destroy you or you can use it as fuel to drive you….”
