The University of Texas at Austin is a public research university situated in Texas's capital city and was founded in 1883. It started off with just one structure and now has 18 schools and institutions. The University of Texas at Austin began operations with one facility, eight faculty members, and 221 students about 140 years ago. Currently, UT is ranked among the top 40 universities worldwide. It is both a community (about 51,000 students in 18 colleges and institutions, as well as their teachers, researchers, and staff) and a nation, Longhorn Nation, with a global network of approximately 500,000 alumni. 

The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) has granted the University of Texas at Austin accreditation to confer baccalaureate, master's, professional, and doctoral degrees.

The University of Texas (UT) is currently placed 72 in the QS World University Rankings 2023 and 29th among the Top US Universities. UT Austin was also placed at #38 in National Universities in the US News & World Report, 2022.

Infrastructure, Campuses and Courses

A total of 1,438.5 acres (582.1 hectares) make up the university's land, including the 423.5 acres (171.4 ha) of the Main Campus in central Austin, the J. J. Pickle Research Campus in north Austin, and the other holdings spread out over Texas. Over 18,000,000 square feet are occupied by 150 buildings on the main site (1,700,000 m2). Students won't get bored at UT Austin because it is a vast and stunning world unto itself, and because there are dozens of museums, libraries, centres, institutes, and special venues dispersed around the campus and the city, each with its own distinctive exhibits and activities. Austin, which has more than 200 venues and hundreds of performances every day and night, lives up to its title as the Live Music Capital of the World. This is in addition to the numerous museums, galleries, and theatres that are dispersed around the city. The Graduate School at the University of Texas at Austin transforms students' lives with its 98 doctoral and 139 master's degree programmes in fields ranging from engineering and business to the arts, sciences, and humanities. The university offers more than 170 fields of study for bachelor's degree candidates across its 13 colleges and schools.

Accomplishments and Alumni

The University of Texas at Austin has received high rankings for its academic programmes, student community, and experiences across the globe. In research projects supported by the National Science Foundation (NSF), UT Austin topped all other American universities (2020). The university is also applauded for research and athletics. It is No.1 among U.S. universities in research financed by the National Science Foundation (NSF) (2020), externally 7198 sponsored projects in the year 2019-20), and $796,694,594 awarded in sponsored projects in the year 2019-20). UT Austin has also received 53 National Championships since 1949, 517 regular-season conference titles, and 130 Olympic medals won by UT Austin student-athletes.

More than 4,82,000 former students from UT Austin have successfully made their marks in a variety of fields, including business and finance, journalism, the arts, sports, literature, and many more. Notable alumni include those who have held elected office in the US House of Representatives.
