Kyungpook National University strives to become a world-leading university based on its proud and enduring traditions of truth, pride and service. Since its founding in 1946 as a national comprehensive university representing the Daegu region and Gyeongbuk province, it has strived to lead Korea's national and international development by nurturing talented graduates who can be leaders in the global community. It transforms through innovation, communication and its pressure in the world. It started as a regional educational centre founded with the support of local residents and quickly gained a solid reputation as the best university south of Seoul. It became known for producing the best Korean intellectuals of the time and proudly representing the Republic of Korea. We will be a university that inspires people all over the world with its achievements. We are a cosmopolitan, knowledge-based university. We are now a global competitor therefore, we must nurture research capacities that can compete with global standards and nurture talent that will lead the world. It is at #653 in Best Global Universities, at #146 in Best Global Universities in Asia and at #11 in Best Global Universities in South Korea.

Infrastructure, Campuses and Courses

Kyungpook National University has four campuses in Gyeongbuk Province. The main campus, which houses the main engineering and science faculties, is located in the heart of Daegu city, in the Buk-gu district. Kyungpook National University also has separate campuses for its teaching hospital known as Dongin campus, as well as a campus in Samduk for its dental school and hospital. In addition, Kyungpook National University also operates from its Sangju campus. The university offers courses in Humanities, Social Sciences, Natural Sciences, Economics, Business Administration, Engineering, Agriculture, Music, Veterinary Medicine, Human Ecology, Nursing, IT, Pharmacy, Ecology, Environmental Science, Education, Public Administration, Public Health, Forensic, Investigative Science, Dentistry, Medicine, Law and many more. 

Accomplishments and Alumni

Won-hwa Hong has been President of the University since November 20, 2021. He graduated from the Faculty of Architecture and earned an M.A. and Ph.D. at Waseda University, Japan. President Hong was Dean of the College of Engineering and Dean of Research and Cooperation with Industry. Some of the alumni are Lee Chang-dong (South Korean film director), Yong Seung Cho (Mathematician), Lee Sang-mi (Singer). 

Student Diversity and Visiting Companies

The total number of students is 19,332 of which the number of international students is 2,399. Total number of academic staff is 971, number of international staff is 96, number of undergraduate degrees awarded is 5,044, number of master's degrees awarded is 1,726, number of doctoral degrees awarded is 325. The number of research-only staff is 116, number of new undergraduate students is 3,828, number of new master's students is 1,976, and the number of new doctoral students is 533.
