History, Affiliations and Rankings

Konkuk University (KU) began in 1931 with the establishment of the People's Hospital. In 1946, the Chosun Political Science School, which was later renamed Konkuk University, was founded. KU has grown into a distinguished institution of higher education throughout the course of its more than 80-year history. Dr Yoo Seok-chang, a medical doctor who built a People's Hospital in 1931 before focusing on the development of young leaders, was its founder. The Korean Ministry of Education and various external bodies, such as the Accreditation Board for Engineering in Korea (ABEEK), have fully accredited all of the programmes. The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business has fully accredited its Business School (AACSB). Konkuk university secured the ranking of #601-650 in QS World University Rankings. U.S. News and World Report ranked the University at #1145 in Best Global Universities (tie), #321 in Best Global Universities in Asia (tie) and #28 in Best Global Universities in South Korea. 

Infrastructure, Campuses and Courses

KU delivers a wide variety of educational and research activities at two campus locations in Seoul's lively Gangnam District and Chungju's pure rural setting. The Sanghuh Memorial Library, was opened in 1989 and was formerly Asia's largest library; the Konkuk University Museum, which has some 4,500 historical relics; and Ilgam Lake, the campus's centrepiece, which was once utilised for ice-skating competitions in the winter are among the top highlights of the campus. There are 13 colleges at the university. In the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences, it has 58 affiliated and special research institutions. Students and the general public can take Chinese, English, French, Japanese, Spanish, and Vietnamese courses at Konkuk University. Some of the popular majors at the university are Biotechnology and Applied Microbiology, Chemistry, Engineering, Microbiology, Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, Oncology, Pharmacology and Toxicology and Physics.

Accomplishments and Alumni 

The university has been dubbed the "fastest expanding university in Korea" for its agriculture and life science research. Some of the university's most notable accomplishments include receiving $10.9 million in support for 13 years in a row for universities that contribute to high school education in 2019, $5.3 million in support for four years of selection of SW-centred university projects in 2018, and being ranked in the Top 5 in the 2019 NCSI Customer Satisfaction Assessment (private college). The university boasts a prestigious alumni network that spans the globe. Jin, a South Korean singer-songwriter, Lee Min-ho, a South Korean actor, and Kim Da-som, a South Korean vocalist are among the famous names.

Student Diversity and Visiting Companies

As a globally engaged university, they educate 2,500 foreign students in undergraduate, graduate, and post-doctoral programmes across a wide range of fields. They offer English-taught programmes of various lengths, including shorter-term summer programmes, to accommodate their Konkuk Global Exchange Network (K-GEN), which spans 67 countries. The university's Career Services and Placement department works tirelessly to guarantee that everyone of their graduates finds work. The following are some of the top employers of university graduates: LG Electronics, SAMSUNG SDS, Coupang, SK hynix and NAVER Corp.
