Tulsi Vivah Story

Source: The Divine Tales

The world of Hindu mythologies is as fascinating and mindblowing as the religion itself. It holds a vast collection of stories that tell us about the lives of Hindu gods, their unique births, marriages, and more. Among these, the Tulsi Vivah story is a fascinating tale to hear.

According to Indian mythology, the pious day of Tulsi Vivah is related to Vrinda. There was once a demon king Jalandhar who was married to Vrinda. He was a great devout and blessed with the power to remain invincible as long as his wife remained faithful to him and their marriage.

To defeat the demon king and punish him for his evils, Lord Vishnu took a new form or avatar and violated the chastity of Vrinda. In this way, he defeated Jalandhar. However, after discovering the truth, Vrinda cursed Vishnu and turned him into a stone (Shaligram) and herself into a Tulsi plant.

As a way to pay for his deeds and show repentance, Vishnu vowed to marry Tulsi every year on the day of Kartik Ekadashi. This is why Hindus all around the world celebrate Tulsi Vivah with great devotion and enthusiasm.
