Overview of the Scholarship
The primary objective of the Sainik Schools is to prepare students academically, mentally, and physically for entry into the National Defence Academy (NDA) and Indian Naval Academy (INA). This year, around 1,33,515 students sat for the AISSEE to secure a place among 3000 vacancies available in Sainik Schools across the country. The Government of India and other State Governments also facilitate students’ education by providing Sainik School Scholarship to the following categories:
- Students having limited economic means
- Students having excellent academic track record.
- Students belonging to Armed Forces background.
But broadly speaking, there are only 2 scholarship scheme types available for students, namely for those who are –
i) Defence wards with their father in active service or retired (Airforce, Army, Navy) with a valid PPO (Pension Payment Order)
ii) Students having limited economic means.
Note: A student can only apply for a scholarship once from either of these categories.

Sainik School Scholarship: Important Dates
The registration process for this scholarship will start on 7 November 2024 (tentative). Students who wish to enrol in the institute must fill out and submit their application form by 16 December 2024, 11:50 pm (tentative).
Types of Sainik School Scholarships
There are mainly 3 types of Sainik School Scholarship offered by the military-focused institute:
