The National Scholarship Portal was launched to provide access to quality education along with material and financial assistance to students coming from backward sections of society as well as Students with Disabilities.

The scheme named scholarships for top-class education for students with disabilities which was created with the objective of helping students with disabilities pursue post-graduation or diplomas in premier educational institutions. It is also pertinent to mention here that 50% of the scholarships are reserved for females.

Eligibility Criteria for Scholarships for Top-Class Education for Students With Disabilities

Before applying to the scholarship scheme for students with disabilities at the National Scholarship Portal, candidates should make sure they possess the eligibility criteria required for this scholarship scheme, as stated below:

• Should be pursuing graduation/post-graduation or a diploma from a recognized and notified university.
• Should have more than 40% physical disability with a valid certificate.
• Annual family income should not exceed more than INR 6 lakhs.

Application Process

Candidates who fulfil the eligibility criteria laid down by the governing body and who wish to avail the benefits of this scheme can follow the steps laid down below to apply for the scholarship:

• Candidates will have to visit the official website and submit the application before the deadline.
• Candidates must upload all the required documents in the prescribed format only (.pdf). Such documents are to be submitted online if the scholarship amount, including the tuition fee, is more than INR 50,000 annually.
• Candidates must ensure that the Institution to which they are applying shall also register itself on the NSP portal and verify candidates’ details thoroughly.
• All the confirmed applicants will be reviewed by the nodal officer, appointed by the State government, who will process applications on behalf of the State government, the final list will be digitally signed in Public Finance Management System (PFMS).
• The number of seats or slots available will be determined on the basis of the percentage of the population of the person with disabilities of that State in proportion to the total number of PwD population in India.

Benefits of Scholarships for Top-Class Education for Students With Disabilities

The National Scholarship Portal (NSP) scheme was launched to provide financial and material assistance so that they can pursue higher education with ease. Under this scheme, a total of 300 scholarships will be awarded to students with disabilities. The students selected under this scheme will be provided with the following benefits:

Terms and Conditions

• The list of participating colleges can be found on the official website. 
• The time duration of this scholarship will be according to the tenure of the course the candidate is pursuing.
• If a scholar fails to appear in the examination due to any medical emergency, their award will be renewed for the next academic year after submitting a medical certificate as proof to the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities.
• The scholarship is liable to be cancelled if the candidate is found guilty of misconduct or if the scholarship was obtained based on false statements.
• There will be a screening community for ensuring proper implementation of the scholarship scheme.
