Making Judgements

Most competitive exams have making judgement questions in the Logical Reasoning section. Common sense and the information provided in the question are combined to solve judgement problems. Because judgement questions are scored in the reasoning part, they must be thoroughly prepared. Investing time in judgement questions is highly recommended because judgement questions are among the most frequently asked in competitive exams such as the RRB NTPC, SSC CGL exam, etc.

A hypothetical situation is given in the Judgements section, and the goal is to make decisions that make sense given the circumstances. Read this blog to familiarise yourself with the questions of Judgements.

What is Judgement? What are the Types of Judgements in Reasoning

The analysis that results from reading the statement and using common sense is called judgment. The provided statement is made up of several well-chosen sentences. You simply need to apply this body of information to the question you are addressing. Below we have mentioned the two main types of judgements in reasoning :

1) Situational Judgements Based on Passages:

Situation given: Raj is organizing a movie night for his friends this weekend. He knows that his friend Aisha has a hobby of watching the latest movies, especially science fiction, while his friend Arjun prefers romantic comedies. The local cinema is showing four movies. Which movie should Raj choose?

Options Available :

  1. A thrilling science fiction movie with a lot of twists.
  2. A romantic comedy that guarantees laughter and warmth.
  3. A movie full of fighting scenes for action enthusiasts.
  4. A movie full of different scenes, offering something for everyone.

Decision: Raj should choose the fourth movie, “Mixed Bag,” as it caters to both Aisha’s love for sci-fi and Arjun’s preference for romantic comedies.

2) Eligibility-Based Judgements:

Scenario given: The XYZ Corporation is hiring new employees for its IT department. Candidates must meet certain eligibility criteria to be considered for the job. The criteria include having a bachelor’s degree in computer science and a minimum of two years of relevant work experience.

Statement Interpretation: Only candidates who fulfill both the educational requirement and the work experience criteria will be shortlisted for the interview.

Decision: Amit holds a bachelor’s degree in computer science but has only one year of work experience. He will not be shortlisted for the interview because he does not meet the required two years of work experience.

In both cases, the Judgements are based on the information provided in the passages or statements, since it requires logical reasoning to arrive at the correct decisions.

Tips to Solve Judgement based  Questions

The most effective approach to deal with judgment-based questions in logical reasoning questions is twofold: read up about them and practice them. Below we have mentioned some additional tips that can help in solving judgement-based questions:

  • To ensure that there is no error in the answers to the judgment-based questions, a thorough interpretation of the statements must be done.
  • To determine if a decision is right, an analysis of the statements must be done and taken into account. Also, option elimination should be used to arrive at the right option.
  • The instructions must be followed to complete the actions. It is necessary to comprehend the statement’s theme and to picture each option after imagining the whole scenario in mind.
