One of the most common entrance exams for students after their high education is JEE Mains. Now you must be wondering about the JEE eligibility and which stream you should be pursuing for give JEE exam. The main aim of the JEE Exam is to evaluate the candidates and a lot of them colleges for engineering courses and other courses like B.Tech/B.E, B.Arch, and B.Plan. 

Earlier JEE exam was only supposed to be taken to qualify for one of the best institutions in India for engineering i.e. Indian Institute of Technology (IIT). However, now this exam also helps students to seek admission to different engineering colleges across the country.

JEE Exam Eligibility Criteria

As said before, students who have appeared in the Science stream are eligible to take the JEE exam. However, there are also some other eligibility criteria that a candidate must keep in mind such as:

Steps After Appearing for the JEE Exam

After appearing for the JEE Exam, the candidates have to go through the JEE Counseling. This counselling round is also known as the JoSAA. Candidates will get allocated engineering colleges based on their All India Ranks. 

The JoSAA conducts 4-6 rounds of seat allocation for candidates who have qualified for the JEE Main exam. 

  • The first 6 rounds are for candidates who have secured a rank within the opening and closing ranks announced by JoSAA. 
  • The last round is an open round, wherein candidates can be allotted seats from the remaining vacant seats.

Candidates who have been allotted a seat in any of the rounds are required to pay a seat acceptance fee and confirm their participation in the counselling process. Candidates who do not wish to participate in further rounds or do not get allotted a seat in any of the rounds can withdraw from the counselling process by notifying JoSAA.

The final allotment of seats will be done after taking into account various factors such as candidates’ preferences, availability of seats, reservations, etc.
