The full form of TB in medical is Tuberculosis. It is a type of communicable disease that affects the lungs of the patient. Who can Develop TB?

The risk of being infected with TB or tuberculosis increases in crowded conditions. Although some antibiotics can effectively treat TB, there are a few that no longer respond to treatments.  

  • People who have a weak immune system are more prone to developing tuberculosis than others. 
  • People who are infected with HIV/AIDS can develop TB at a faster rate than others. 

What are the Symptoms of TB?

A TB infection occurs when the germs survive and multiply in the lungs of the patient. It generally occurs in three stages with different symptoms in each stage.

Primary TB Infection 

  • This is the initial stage of infection during which the immune cells find and try to destroy the germs. 
  • Common symptoms include extreme fatigue, fever, and cough.

Latent TB Infection

  • During this stage, immune system cells build a wall around lung tissue with TB germs.
  • If the immune system is still healthy, the germs are unable to harm the patient anymore. 
  • There are no such symptoms during the latent TB infection. 

Active TB Disease

  • The Active TB stage occurs when the immune system of the patient can no longer control the infection.
  • TB germs can cause diseases in different parts of the body.
  • It can happen right after the infection or after a few months as well.
  • Common symptoms of this stage include cough, chest pain, coughing up blood, fatigue, unexpected weight loss, and so on.
