The GPSC full form is Gujarat Public Service Commission. This institution was established on 1st May 1960. It was instituted under Article 351 (1) of the Constitution of India. This organisation is responsible for recruiting eligible candidates for civil services in Gujarat. The selection process is based on entrance examinations and interviews.
According to Article 316 of the Indian Constitution, the governor of Gujarat has the authority to appoint the Chairman of GPSC, just like every other Public Service Commission (PSC) in India. Additionally, the governor also appoints the Secretary and other members of the GPSC.

Composition and Functions of GPSC
The Gujarat Public Service Commission includes 7 members and a Chairman. The key functions of the Gujarat Public Service Commission are as follows:
- To conduct examinations for recruiting civil servants for the state of Gujarat
- To advise on recruitment methods for several civil service designations of the state
- To advise on disciplinary matters relating to civil servants of Gujarat
- To advise and take decisions on the remuneration of civil servants
- To advise and decide on the future of civil servants. This body decides and executes promotions and transfers of all the recruited personnel.
