1987- Operation Pawan
Operation Pawan was started by the Indian forces in Sri Lanka. It was to take control of Jaffna from the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam.

1634- Burchardi Flood
The Burchardi Flood, a storm tide that struck North Frisia on October 11 and 12 killed around 15,000 in North Friesland, Denmark and Germany.

1811- First Steam-Powered Ferry
The Juliana, constructed by Col John Stevens III, began operation as the first steam-powered ferry in New York Harbor.

1852- University of Sydney
The University of Sydney, the oldest university in Australia and one of the world’s most highly ranked universities was inaugurated on October 11. 

1937- Beginning of the National Liberation War of Macedonia
The National Liberation War of Macedonia began with the Axis Invasion of Yugoslavia so a part of Macedonian communists began a political campaign to resist. 

1968- Apollo Mission
NASA launched Apollo 7, the first crewed flight in the mission, that went on to become the first successful manned Apollo mission. 

1987- AIDS Memorial Quilt
The AIDS Memorial Quilt was first displayed during the Second National March on Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights. It was an enormous display to celebrate the lives of those who died of AIDS.
