From wars, and truces, to births and deaths of notable personalities; a lot could happen in a single day. Let’s go through the important incidents that occurred on this day in history- February 7.

1238: Burning of a Russian City
The Mongols burned the Russian city of Vladimir-Suzdal while the royal family perished.

1301: First English Prince of Wales
Edward of Caernarfon (later King Edward II of England) became the first English Prince of Wales on February 7 1301.

1613: Tsar of Russia
Michael Romanov, the founder of the Romanov dynasty, became tsar of Russia at the age of 16.

1639: First French Dictionary
 Academie Française began the Dictionary of French Language on February 7 1639.

1783: The Great Siege of Gibraltar
The great Siege of Gibraltar by France and Spain against the British colony during the American War of Independence was lifted after 3 years and 7 months.

1812: Earthquake in New Madrid
The strongest earthquake struck New Madrid, Missouri with a magnitude 7.2–8.2.

1819: William Farquhar took over Singapore
Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles left Singapore after just taking it over. He left it in the hands of William Farquhar who was the 1st  British Resident and Commandant of colonial Singapore.

1845: Shattering of the oldest glass
The Portland Vase, which was dated to the 1st century BC was shattered into more than 80 pieces by a drunken visitor to the British Museum.

1863: HMS Orpheus sank
HMS Orpheus sank off the coast of Auckland, New Zealand, killing 189 on February 7 1863.

1915: The first wireless message
 1st wireless message sent from a moving train to a station received.

1940: Premiere of Pinocchio
Walt Disney’s second feature-length movie, “Pinocchio” premiered in the US which is Disney’s most beloved classic.

1944: World War II 
German forces launched a counteroffensive in Anzio, Italy during the Allied Operation Shingle.

1979: Pluto inside Neptune’s orbit
Pluto moves inside Neptune’s orbit for the first time since either was discovered.

1991: Haiti’s first democratically elected president
 Jean-Bertrand Aristide- Haiti’s first democratically elected president is sworn in.

1999: King of Jordan
Crown Prince Abdullah became the King of Jordan on the death of his father, King Hussein on February 7 1999.

2013: Azerspace-1
Azerbaijan launched its first satellite, Azerspace-1 on February 7 2013.

2014: Happisburgh footprints
Scientists announced that the Happisburgh footprints in Norfolk, England date back to more than 800,000 years ago. This makes them the oldest known hominid footprints outside Africa.
