History, Affiliations and Rankings
Founded in 1948, Sumy State University is situated in the city Sumy, in the northeast region of Ukraine. Initially it was a part of Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute that later became the Sumy Institute of Physics and Technology in 1990 and finally became Sumy State University three years later. As a Ukrainian State University, Sumy State University’s main focus is on research and creating complete international awareness and orientation. It is classified as a university with intensive focus on research according to the QS World University Rankings, and enters their TOP-group (i.e. 3%) of the leading universities in the world.
Infrastructure, Campuses and Courses
Sumy State University offers a variety of programmes ranging from different educational levels. Currently, there are approximately 15,000, nearly 1300 international students from almost 50 countries enrolled pursuing 54 majors and 22 fields of knowledge. The university offers 34 Bachelors and 37 Masters programmes, as well as a variety of PhD studies in fields like engineering, humanities, IT and medicine through multiple mediums of study like full-time education, part-time studying as well as distance learning.

Sumy State University holds a leading position for number of citations in the scholarly community, and cooperates with over 260 college partners from the USA, Great Britain, Germany, Austria, France, Belgium, etc. The university also has received various awards in the field of medicine and sciences.
