The Mission Santa Clara de Asís was the 8th of the 21 original California missions, founded in 1777 by Father Junipero Serra. The Mission was designed to be the focal point of the campus, and it remains so to this day. In 1912, the College was renamed "The University of Santa Clara'' after the inclusion of law and engineering programs. The Leavey School of Business was founded in 1926 and was one of the first business schools in the country to obtain national accreditation within a decade. AJCU, NAICU, ACCU, and Space-grant have academic links with the university. The WASC Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC), one of six regional accrediting agencies in the United States, has granted Santa Clara University accreditation. Santa Clara University secured the ranking of #85 in QS US University Rankings. U.S. News and World Report ranked the University at #55 in National Universities (tie), #37 in Best Undergraduate Teaching (tie) and #110 in Best Value Schools.

Infrastructure, Campuses and Courses

The campus, located in the heart of Silicon Valley, encompasses 106 beautiful acres and is surrounded by world-renowned gardens and cutting-edge facilities, all of which surround the famous Mission. Santa Clara University is a Jesuit university that combines high-tech innovation with a social conscience. The Mission Santa Clara de Asis, eleven residence halls, a large library/learning commons, the Centre for Performing Arts, a 2,200 square-foot television studio, state-of-the-art classrooms, the de Saisset Museum, and substantial athletic facilities are among the 50+ buildings on campus. SCU has received numerous prestigious honours and accolades from around the world. AASHE: 2021 Sustainable Campus Index - Top Performer for Public Engagement & Research, Princeton Review's Top 50 Green Schools, and Sierra Club Magazine: (#22) - 15th Anniversary of Coolest Schools are some of the most recent. SCU is a supporter of the Global Conference on Higher Education Sustainability. The first stage of SCU's carbon neutrality goal has been met. The CHESC Best Practice Award in Student Sustainability Leadership has also been awarded to the university. The university boasts a prestigious alumni network of over 103,706 people from all around the world. Steve Nash, a Canadian professional basketball player, Jerry Brown, a former Governor of California, and Zoe Lofgren, a United States Representative, are among the noteworthy names.

Santa Clara University has an enrollment of 8,669 students, including 5,694 undergraduates and 2,975 graduate students. The male-to-female ratio in the undergraduate population is 50:50, and around 51% of undergraduate students identify as people of colour. The majority of undergraduates are from California, with the rest hailing from all throughout the United States and 27 different countries.
