Jacobs University Bremen is an international, private research university based in Vegesack, Bremen, Germany. Jacobs University Bremen, originally called the International University of Bremen, was founded in 1999 with the support of the University of Bremen, Rice University in Houston, Texas, and the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen and started with study programs in 2001. The Jacobs Foundation invested 200 million euros in the facility in November 2006 and thus took over a two-thirds majority of the company's stake. In early 2007, the university changed its name to Jacobs University Bremen. The university offers a preparatory program in cooperation with the Oxford International Education Group - the International College of Jacobs University. According to its mission statement, Jacobs University Bremen “pursues the goal of training talented young people, regardless of nationality, religion and material requirements, to become capable citizens and to take responsibility for the future sustainable and peaceful development of mankind.” The modules of the Jacobs University Bremen program are accredited by the Science Council and the German Accreditation Council (ACQUIN). The university ranks at #1233 in Best Global Universities, at #471 in Best Global Universities in Europe and at #63 in Best Global Universities in Germany.
Infrastructure, Campuses and Courses
Jacobs University Bremen offers students a vibrant campus life. There are facilities for various sports such as football, rugby, cricket, basketball, CrossFit, rowing and volleyball. In addition, the multidisciplinary gym helps students stay in shape. In addition to sports, the university is a centre for cultural activities. Extracurricular activities are organised on campus, including music festivals, dance competitions, plays and visual arts exhibitions. All festivals like Christmas, Diwali, Eid and Nowruz are celebrated by students on campus. It offers undergraduate, undergraduate, graduate, executive education and doctoral programs in all disciplines. The university's various colleges include Alfried Krupp College, Mercator College, College III, and College Nordmetall. All programs offered at the university are designed with the current curriculum according to the global standard. Jacobs University Bremen is a global centre of learning. Students come from all over the world to study at the university. It is an English-speaking university in Germany. It has established partnerships with accredited international universities and institutions for study abroad, ERASMUS exchanges and joint study programmes. Some of the university's partner institutions and universities are the University of Edinburgh (UK), University College of Amsterdam (Netherlands), Instituto de Empresa (Spain) and Kadir Has University (Turkey), St. Petersburg State University (Russia), New York University (USA), University of Johannesburg (South Africa), Washington State University (USA) and University of Oslo (Norway). There are over 1,600 students from more than 110 countries on five continents, with approximately 75% of their classmates being international. There are 34 students in Preparatory programs, 1127 students in Bachelor programs, 215 students in Master's programs and 230 students in PhD programs.
