After its illustrious opening in 2001, Jacobs University Bremen has steadily gained recognition across the state of Bremen as well as Germany. It is a private state university founded with the assistance of three renowned universities, namely, Rice University, Texas, Free Hanseatic University of Bremen and University of Bremen. In 2006, it was the recipient of €200 million donation, Europe’s largest-ever donation to any university made by the Jacobs Foundation. Thereon, the university altered its name to ‘Jacobs University Bremen’ from ‘International University Bremen’. Appreciating its fast-track development, the Times Higher Education Rankings placed Jacobs University Bremen at the 26th spot in the world under the category of ‘Young University Rankings’. It offers a limited number of programs of study in highly selective areas and the medium of instruction is predominantly English. In 2018 academic year, a total of 1,466 students enrolled at the university with exchange/visiting students coming from nearly 111 countries. There are 15 bachelors, 4 masters programs and three specialised doctoral programs along with a host of other courses in the disciplines of Engineering, Biology, Computer Science, etc. To foster multidimensional development of students, it has partnered with renowned higher education institutions, namely, Carnegie Mellon University and Washington State University in the USA, China’s Fudan University, Technion University, Israel and Gakuin University, Japan.
