The Dublin City University, founded in 1975 as the National Institute for Higher Education, Dublin, accepted its first students in 1980 and was granted university status by legislation in September 1989. The Church of Ireland College of Education, All Hallows College, Mater Dei Institute of Education, and St Patrick's College were all merged into DCU in September 2016. The first purpose-built university nursing school in the country is located at DCU. The University of Limerick was the first in Ireland to offer a European Master of Business Informatics program.
