History, Affiliations, and Rankings
Dongguk University was founded in 1906 by the Korean Buddhist Religious Jogye Order. It is one of the few Buddhist-affiliated Universities in the world that offer innovative, world-class education at the heart of Seoul. The University, however, is open to educators and students from all faiths and philosophies. It aims at making a larger impact on the world through the education that it provides and fosters the Buddhist foundational spirit to produce competent graduates who can participate in the development of society. Currently, there are 11 graduate schools at Dongguk University, that include one of the best MBA programs in all of Asia. The University is an affiliated member of the International Association of Buddhist Universities. It ranks among the top 500 universities in the world and is placed at #494 according to QS World University Rankings 2022.
Infrastructure, Campuses, and Courses
There are 4 campuses of Dongguk University, the main Seoul campus, and campuses at Goyang and Gyeongju and international campuses in Los Angeles and in Peckham. It provides students with exposure to learn through the proper application of concepts. World-class labs and library facilities allow students to conduct their own research. Students are exposed to the latest theories in their respective subjects. 56 departments and majors provide an ample amount of choice to the students regarding the choice of their program. The optimal study environment is perfect for creating a group of friends who will encourage each other and grow together. The courses which are offered at Dongguk University are aimed at not just providing knowledge pertaining to the subject, but also helping students mature as individuals. There are bookstores, stationery shops, a photo studio, photocopy shops, an optical shop, stationery stores, convenience stores, coffee shops, a Burger King, a hair salon, and more. A number of different exchange programs are offered to countries such as the USA, Asia, Africa, Europe, and more. Courses are offered at the Undergraduate and Postgraduate levels across various disciplines such as, Science and Technology, Management and Economics, Buddhist Studies, Social Science, Nursing, Education and others.
Accomplishments and Alumni
DU provides its students with an opportunity to grow and develop themselves through their education. Graduates and undergraduates are constantly pushed towards practical training in every area. Some of the most notable actors, actresses and anchors have graduated from the Dangguk University in South Korea. Some of them are Im Yoon-ah -South Korean singer and actress, Han Hyo-Joo- South Korean film and television actress and Lee Seung-gi- South Korean singer, actor, host, and entertainer.
