S. Jaishankar consistently requested a humanitarian approach towards students. Several students were threatened with deportation accusing them of obtaining fake visas by the Canadian Government.

Students who were protesting against the risk of deportation, have got some relief. A few students have recently received stay orders on their deportation notices. These students went to Canada between 2017-2019.

The flaws of the Canadian system made it possible for illegal immigration in Canada. However, genuine students must be supported by the Government of Canada. Jaishankar stated the fact that the Indian students were not at fault.

The Indian Government has been following up with Canadian Authorities in New Delhi and Canada. S.Jaishankar spoke to foreign ministers in this regard. Additionally, Indian officials have also met a few students at the Consulate in Toronto.
