The government of Egypt has taken up several new measures to promote the country as a popular study-abroad destination. Consequently, the Egyptian Initiative for Scholarships and Educational Tourism (EGYAISD) was undertaken as a part of Eggypt’s National Strategy for Higher Education 2030.

According to the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the EGYAID initiative was based on the 7 student-focused principles. These are as follows

  • We take care of you
  • You are in your second country
  • We welcome the world
  • You are integrated,
  • You are innovative, and
  • You are an ambassador.

Moreover, he explained that an appropriate environment for overseas students is being prepared. The reason is to incorporate innovation and creativity within the educational process.

International students can choose to study in Egypt as the country has a low cost of living compared to Western countries. Moreover, English is the language of instruction in scientific, medical, and allied medical faculties and several other disciplines.

New Scholarship Programme for International Students

Another initiative of the EGYAID is to introduce a new scholarship program. The scholarship offers a 50% reduction in the tuition fees for graduate students. Similarly, undergraduate students can get a 25% reduction in the tuition fee. The scholarship deadline is 15 September.

Additional Incentives and Support for Visiting Students

The EGYAID initiative follows a ‘whole of government’ approach. Therefore, several other government ministries have joined to offer additional incentives and support for international students. Some of these incentives include:

  • A 50% discount on domestic transportation and communications charges
  • A 50% discount on concerts and cultural performances
  • Additionally, they can receive a 25% discount on travel via EgyptAir. Moreover, the discount on travel is applicable to the family members of the student.

As per the ministry, approximately, 35,000 international students have applied for UG studies at Egyptian Universities in the year 2022-23. It is nearly, a 33% increase compared to the previous year. Moreover, 3 out of 4 applicants have received a place in any one of the Egyptian universities.
