Study Abroad: New Changes for Agri-Food Pilot in Canada Effective from February 2024

Two new changes have been updated for Agri-Food Pilot in Canada regarding permanent residency with effect from 10th February 2024. Firstly, candidates living in Canada can choose to satisfy either the job or the educational requirement. Secondly, IRCC will now credit work experience obtained under an open work permit towards work experience criteria.  The Agri-Food Pilot was introduced in 2020 as a three-year pilot till 14th May 2025 in May 2023.

Eligibility Criteria for Canada Agri-Food Pilot

The eligibility criteria for for Canada Agri-Food Pilot are listed below:

  • The candidates should have at least one year of cumulative, non-seasonal, full-time experience
  • They should have one or more Agri-Food jobs that qualify in one of the relevant industries
  • The candidates should have education from a high school diploma from Canada
  • The candidates should have a valid status as a temporary resident
  • If the candidates are already employed under a work permit then they are not required to present their settlement money

Eligible Occupations for Agri-Food Pilot

For Meat Product Manufacturing

  1. NOC 63201 – Butchers – retail and wholesale
  2. NOC 65202 – Meat cutters and fishmongers – retail and wholesale
  3. NOC 94141 – Industrial butchers and meat cutters, poultry preparers and related workers
  4. NOC 82030 – Agricultural service contractors and farm supervisors
  5. No. 84120: Specialized livestock workers and farm machinery operators
  6. NOC 85100 – Livestock labourers
  7. NOC 95106 – Labourers in food and beverage processing

For greenhouse, nursery, and floriculture production, including mushroom production (NAICS 1114)

  1. NOC 82030 – Agricultural service contractors and farm supervisors
  2. No. 84120: Specialized livestock workers and farm machinery operators
  3. NOC 85100 – Livestock labourers
  4. NOC 85101 – Harvesting labourers

For animal production, excluding aquaculture (NAICS 1121, 1122, 1123, 1124 and 1129)

  1. NOC 82030 – Agricultural service contractors and farm supervisors
  2. No. 84120: Specialized livestock workers and farm machinery operators
  3. NOC 85100 – Livestock labourers
  4. NOC 85101: Harvesting Labourers
