Describe a place in a village that you visited

Q- Describe a place in a village that you visited

  • What is the name of the village?  When did you visit?
  • What did you do during your visit?
  • What did you feel after visiting the place?

Ans: On my eighth birthday, my parents took me to their hometown, a little village in Mawsynram (Meghalaya). Mawsynram, a small secluded town surrounded by lush foliage and attractive scenery, holds a special place in my heart.  When I initially saw the site, my childlike imagination discerned it as something right out of a fairy tale due to its surrealistic setting. The village, not far from the main town of Mawsynram, was my refuge of solitude throughout the summers of my youth. If I were to describe the place based on my first impression, I would describe the settlement as buried and cascading under hazy clouds.

As far as I recall, the majority of my time during my visit was spent playing in the rain and listening to the pitter-patter of raindrops on our tin roof. At the time, I would pester my parents by playing and getting drenched in the rain with little concern over tomorrow.  Climbing up trees and plucking luscious fruits from them was one of my favourite pastimes during my visits to Mawsynram. During one of my escapades to the nearby forest, I was as usual trying to climb up a tree to eat some delectable fruits when I suddenly felt an agonizing pain in my ear. I looked up to find out the cause only to stumble across an unknown face. Later, I came to know that the huge burly man was our neighbour and it was his tree from which I was trying to steal the fruits. As a result, my little escapades came to an abrupt halt.

My memories of Mawsynram aren’t tarnished by adulthood; rather, whenever I recall my visits there, I’m transported back to my childhood. Those were the times when everything seemed to be simple and innocent. I used to visit Mawsynram to seek refuge from the sweltering summers of Delhi. I recall how giddy I used to get at the onset of my vacations. I used to feel like I was on cloud nine just thinking about visiting my village and eating all of my grandmother’s delicacies and listening to her sing me lullabies!

The visits were not only filled with fun and games, but they also took me on a tremendous learning adventure. My grandma, who was more than a mentor to me during my growing years, would be responsible for my learning curve during my visits to my hometown. She not only taught me how to comprehend life, but she also made me the person I am today.
