Duolingo Daily Topic: Read then Write- Task 3 ( Reading books and watching movies are popular leisure activities)

Ans: Reading books and watching movies are two of the most common leisure activities. Each offers unique benefits and appeals to different senses.

On one hand, reading books is an active process that requires both imagination and concentration. It helps the reader delve deep into the minds of various characters they are reading, understand their thought processes, and empathize with them. Books often provide detailed descriptions of characters, plots, and settings, enabling readers to visualize the story uniquely. This aids in increasing creativity and enhancing the reader’s vocabulary. For example, a mystery novel like Agatha Christie’s “And Then There Were None” will always keep readers on the edge of their seats, challenging them to solve the mystery themselves.

On the other hand, watching movies is more of a passive activity. It brings life to the stories with the help of striking visuals, sounds and special effects. They help in conveying complex emotions and scenarios quickly. For example, watching a movie such as “Avatar” transports viewers into different worlds, offering an experience that reading might not capture completely.

I prefer reading books over watching movies. It helps me immerse myself in different worlds, living with various characters and experiencing their joys and sorrows. Reading also aids me in interpreting stories from different angles, which is a creative process. For example, when I am reading J.K. Rowling’s “Harry Potter” series, I find myself imagining the magical world of Hogwarts in my unique way.

To conclude, while both reading and watching movies have their own set of benefits, the choice depends on one’s personal preference. I prefer indulging in reading because of the freedom it offers to imagine and contemplate things.
