World Day for International Justice 2023

It can be challenging, but the fight against war crimes, genocide, and other forms of criminal injustice demands attention. To raise awareness of this issue, there is a World Day for International Justice. The International Criminal Court (ICC) adopted the Rome Statute on July 17, 1998, which is commemorated each year on July 17 as World Day for International Justice. The Rome Statute is the foundation document of the International Criminal Court (ICC), a body that looks into and prosecutes people charged with the most serious offences of concern to the world community, such as genocide, crimes against humanity, war crimes, and crimes of aggression.

Why do we Observe the World Day for Social Justice?

This day is important and it is intended to promote worldwide social justice and raise awareness of racial injustice. The purpose of the day is to bring people from different backgrounds together nearby in an effort to eliminate prejudices towards certain religions, bigotry, large bodies, and gender.

History of World Day for International Justice

120 nations joined forces to formally approve the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court on July 17, 1998. The organisation eventually adopted the name International Criminal Court (ICC), which became operational on July 1, 2002. Since the Rome Statute was ratified, the World Day for International Justice has been observed annually.

Significance

The main goal of the World Day for International Justice is to applaud the ICC’s work and bring everyone together to advance justice for those who have been wrongfully accused of crimes abroad.

Extermination, murder, and other crimes against humanity, genocide, war crimes (intentionally inflicting suffering, torturing victims, etc.), and crimes of aggression (military occupation, annexation, etc.) were the main areas of attention for the ICC.

Theme 2023

International Day of Social Justice The theme for 2023 has not yet been determined. The 2022 World Day of Social Justice had the theme “Achieving Social Justice Through Formal Employment”. The theme for the 2021 World Day for Social Justice was “A Call for Social Justice in the Digital Economy.”

International Justice Day’s Purpose

The purpose of this day is to bring together everyone who wants to support justice and advocate for the rights of victims. Its purpose is to aid in the prevention of serious crimes and those that endanger the world’s peace, security, and well-being. This is our Right to protect and stand against crime.

Ways to Observe This Day

There are numerous ways to observe International Justice Day. You can go to activities put on by the regional office of the ICC or by other groups that support global criminal justice. 

• You can write to your elected authorities and ask them to support the ICC’s efforts. Additionally, you can discover more about the ICC’s activities and global criminal justice.
• Highlight the need for justice in your community in an article or blog post. You could write to your elected official in your community and express your views. 
• Talk to officials in your government. Also, you can participate in one of the several events that will be organised.
• Give suggestions that how we can save ourselves from crime and also decrease the crime rate, you can make aware people in our society about how to stop crime.
