The Constituent Assembly of India adopted the Constitution of India that was drafted by Dr BR Ambedkar on 26 November 1948. But the Constitution of India came into effect on 26 November 1950.
Since then, India has become a completely independent republic with a democratic government system.
This day is chosen as the Republic Day of India because, on this day in 1929, the Indian National Congress (INC) proclaimed the Independence of India and declared Purna Swaraj on the banks of Ravi in Lahore. Our country was freed from the British Raj and became a sovereign state.
