Overview of Operation Blackboard

Operation Blackboard was started in 1987 to raise the standard of primary education. In 1987, the Indian government implemented a program designed to improve retention among students in schools and implement a child-centered approach to learning, following recommendations from the NPE of 1986.

The program advocated for covering all elementary schools in existence on September 30, 1986. In 1986, the administration of Rajiv Gandhi developed a novel National Education Policy. The plan called for a focus on closing gaps and ensuring equal access to education, especially for women of Indian descent and members of Scheduled Tribes (ST) and Scheduled Castes (SC).

Additionally, the goal of Operation Blackboard was to support adult education and scholarships, provide financial aid to low-income families so they would send their kids to school regularly, and create new institutions.

This program aims to guarantee a set of basic amenities in all of the nation’s primary schools. This has two sizable rooms that are usable in all weather and are utilized to supply all primary schools with instructional materials. A science and math kit, a tool kit, 45 charts, maps, kid’s books, balls, and a blackboard were among the teaching items that were supplied.
