Long Speech on Guru Purnima
Good morning to the respected authorities present here and my dear friends. Today, I Harshit, will present a speech on Guru Purnima before you. I hope that I will be able to convey my thoughts to you. Swami Vivekananda said,”By the grace of the guru, a disciple becomes a pandit (scholar) even without reading books.” The meaning of the word “Guru” in Sanskrit is someone who eliminates darkness and acts as a guiding light in the life of a student or his/her disciple. Gurus play a very crucial role in the life of their disciples. They impart knowledge to them, instil values and wisdom to them and guide them on the course of life. In India, a day is dedicated to the Gurus to express our gratitude and admiration towards them which is called Guru Purnima. It is celebrated in the month of Ashadha on the full moon day which comes in the month of June or July. On the day of Guru Purnima, Maharishi Veda Vyas, who was a great teacher, is remembered. He had a great knowledge of god, self-existence and life, which, in texts, has been referred to as Vedas. He is also known as the author of Mahabharata and the Puranas. On Guru Purnima, the strong bond of respect and trust that is between the teachers and the students is what is celebrated. Students thank their teachers for sharing knowledge and skills with them. Imagine walking on a road full of potholes and bumps that too blindfolded. That is what life is like without a true Guru. Krishna helped Arjuna to overcome the hardships of his life. He was like a guru to him. For Swami Vivekanand, it was his guru who helped him get close to god and develop a great relationship and faith in him. There are numerous examples of the guru-shishya relationship that the teachers and students can look up to for inspiration. On this occasion of Guru Purnima, let us thank our teachers who shaped our lives with knowledge, virtues and love and made us into those individuals that we are today. Let us thank them for showering their blessings on us and guiding us into the journey of life. Thank You |
