Year of the First Battle Of Panipat
The First Battle of Panipat was fought on 21st April 1526. The forces who were involved in the first Battle of Panipat were Mughal Emperor Babur and the Sultan of Delhi, Ibrahim Lodi.
- Babur, a descendant of the Turkic conqueror Timur on his father’s side and Genghis Khan on his mother’s side had his eyes set on expanding his empire in India.
- Ibrahim Lodi, on the other hand, was ruling over a crumbling Delhi Sultanate and faced internal dissent among his nobles.

The Battle Unfolds
- The two armies met on the battlefield near Panipat on April 21, 1526.
- Babur’s army, though significantly outnumbered, had the advantage of superior tactics and military technology including firearms and artillery which was unfamiliar to the Indian forces at that time.
- The battle was fierce and bloody, with both sides suffering heavy casualties.
- But in the end, Babur emerged as the victorious side and Ibrahim Lodi was killed in the battle.
- With this battle, a new empire, the Mughal Empire was established in India, which lasted for nearly 350 years of Mughal rule in India.
Post this Battle, Babur sat on the gold throne and became the first Mughal Emperor in India. Followed by his descendants like Humayun, Akbar, Jahangir, Shah Jahan, Aurangzeb, etc.
