History of DRDO
Here is a historical overview of the formation of the DRDO:
- The Defence Research and Development Organisation was formed in the year 1958.
- It was a result of the amalgamation of the Indian Army’s Technical Development Establishments (TDEs), the Directorate of Technical Development and Production (DTDP) with the Defence Science Organisation (DSO).
- During its inception, the DRDO was a small organisation with merely 10 laboratories.
- Over the years, it has expanded into around 41 laboratories and 5 DRDO Young Scientist Laboratories (DYSLs).

The work of DRDO looks somewhat like this:
- DRDO and its laboratories that are located across India are engaged in developing the latest defence technology.
