Study Abroad: US allowed a record number of student visas in 2022

The US diplomat in Goa is boosting business as well as cultural ties between US companies and businessmen in Goa.

The consulates of the United States have allowed more than 1.22 lakh student visa applications in 2022 to study abroad. This is an all-time record, where India is the top receiver of US student visas, stated Mike Hankey, US Consul General. 

Mike Hankey said that the country has processed more than 1.22 lakh student visa applications in 2022, making India the number one country to apply for the visa. He also stated that the country prioritised three different types of visas: humanitarian medical visas, student visas, and business visas. 

The number of Indian students at US universities is incredibly high. In the present day, there are more than 2 lakh, Indian students, pursuing their higher education at US universities. Mike Hankey, the Consul General of the United States, who is in India for a professional trip, said that the US embassy has also enhanced the application process for student visas by committing more people to the centre and leveraging the benefits of more resources. This is why the number of applications has reached an all-time high since the COVID-19 lockdown. 

The US officers are now working on a global team to properly help students with their visa needs. This is good news for Students who want to study at American universities. 

He also said that the US consulate is consistently working to remove the backlog granting travel documents through a special method. Additionally, the Department of State of the USA is also decreasing the overall waiting period for visa applications worldwide.
