  • 1908: Sri Aurobindo arrested
    On June 2, 1908, Sri Aurobindo, a freedom fighter, was arrested in the ManikTala Bomb explosion case. The British Government arrested Sri Aurobindo, a prominent Nationalist Leader at the time, Barindra Ghose, and many young revolutionaries. They were charged with “Conspiracy” or “waging war against the King” – the equivalent of high treason and punishable with death by hanging.
  • 1988: Raj Kapoor passed away
    Raj Kapoor, the famous film actor, director and Dadasaheb Phalke awardee, passed away on June 2, 1988. He is widely considered the greatest showman in the history of Indian cinema and entertainment.
  • 2014: Telangana officially became the 29th state of India
    On June 2, 2014, Telangana got separated from Andhra Pradesh and became the 29th state in India. Kalvakuntla Chandrashekar Rao was elected as the first chief minister of Telangana, following elections in which the Telangana Rashtra Samithi party secured a majority.
