The Indian Institute of Technology (BHU) Varanasi is all set to develop a regional academic center for space inside its campus by the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO). It was a moment of great pride when it was announced that there was going to be ISRO Regional Academic Center for Space at IIT-BHU. It was announced in an official release that the centre will be used for carrying research in the Indian space programme.

IIT-BHU director professor P.K Jain stated that he believes that the RAC-S will be helpful for promoting space technology activities in the states of Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh. The two organisations also signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) in a virtual manner. It was signed by the directors of both the organizations.
The ISRO Regional Academic Center for Space at IIT-BHU will smoothen the process of carrying out short-term as well as long-term projects which will bring about a major change in the culture of research and development.
The institute will be the leader and project monitor of RAC-S in which the scientific institutes from the states of Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Chattisgarh will be brought in order to participate in various research and development activities.
This research center will enable IIT-BHU to leverage research in the fields of space technology, space applications, space science, telecommunications etc in order to design developmental models for effective natural resource management. Such an initiative will go a long way in benefitting the Purvanchal and Central regions of the country.
The ISRO Regional Academic Center for Space at IIT-BHU will also provide short-term projects for B. Tech and M. Tech students from the institute and associate institutes. Along with this, long-term projects for PhD students will also be offered by the research centre.

The research center will cater to capacity building programs like conferences, exhibitions and short courses organised for students in order to strengthen their knowledge base in the field.
