History, Affiliations and Rankings

Established in 1885 as a Royal Medical Institution, Yonsei University is among the oldest private universities in South Korea with strong international networks. With 700 partner institutions in over 77 countries, the University aims to enhance student profiles through global alliances. Yonsei University is affiliated with multiple academic and research networks including AEARU and APRU along with partnerships with some of the best universities in the USA and Europe including the University of Geneva and the University of Keio. The University claimed #79th rank in the QS Global World Ranking 2022. It climbed 36 positions from the previous year rankings in THE World University Rankings 2022 claiming the 151st spot and was recognized among the top private universities for higher education in South Korea. 

Infrastructure, Campuses, Courses

Yonsei University has three campuses - the main Sinchon campus, the Mirae campus and an international campus at Songdo. The three campuses are finely architectured, picturesque locales with modern buildings. The Sinchon campus is situated at the heart of the capital city of South Korea allowing international students the opportunity to experience Korean culture first-hand. Further, being located in a student-centric area of the city, the Yonsei campus offers a vibrant youth culture that facilitates globalized learning with cultural immersion. 

Accomplishments and Alumni

Yonsei University is one of the three SKY Universities considered to be the most prestigious universities to study in South Korea. It is known for consistently fostering international links and global alliances by encouraging student mobility and joint research projects. The University claimed the highest Grade A for the South Korean Ministry of Education’s University Innovation Support Project for displaying innovation in educational organizations. Besides its prestigious history of research and innovation, the University has produced some of the most notable personalities in fields such as Arts and Literature, Entertainment, Politics and more. Jung Koo Kang, a Yonsei alumnus was recently appointed Professor at Harvard Business School. Other celebrated icons, Bong-Jo Hoon (South Korean Film Director), Han Seung-Soo (South Korean politician), Han Kang (South Korean writer) all accredit their success to Yonsei University. 

Student Diversity and Visiting Companies

Yonsei University advocates global cultural diversity attracting young talent from around the world. With over 38,000 students including 5500+ international students enrolled in various Bachelors and Masters degree programs, the University benchmarks diversity in a multi-cultural community of students providing them with a truly global academic experience. The male to female ratio at the University was reported to be 51:49 for the academic year 2020-21. The holistic education system of Yonsei attracts top multinationals to recruit extensively from the University.
