History, Affiliations and Rankings
In 1919, Western New England University was established in Springfield, Massachusetts in the United States. The University was founded as the Springfield Division of Northeastern College, now known as Springfield-Northeastern, to provide part-time educational opportunities for adult students in law, business, and accounting. The university awarded the degree of Bachelor of Commercial Science to the first 13 students in 1992.
Western New England College was officially named the Western New England University in 2011. The New England Commission of Higher Education (formerly the Commission on Institutions of Higher Education of the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, Inc.) has granted accreditation to the university. Western New England University is ranked #213 in the US News & World Report's National Universities 2022 Rankings. Schools are ranked based on their performance on a set of widely regarded excellence factors.
Infrastructure, Campuses and Courses
The beautiful campus of Western New England University is located in a small city of 153,000 in the western part of Massachusetts. The main campus has expanded from its original 34 to 215 acres, containing 24 major buildings and numerous athletic and recreational fields. Approximately four miles from downtown Springfield, the university has its campus in a suburban neighborhood, near the Wilbraham border.
The University provides approximately 50 undergraduate programmes via the Colleges of Arts and Sciences, Business, and Engineering, and is known for personal attention and a culture of genuine student concern. The Colleges of Arts and Sciences, Business, and Engineering all offer graduate and doctoral programmes. Doctor of Occupational Therapy and Doctor of Pharmacy degrees are awarded by the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. JD, MS, and LLM programmes are available at the School of Law. Taking advantage of its diverse curriculum offerings, the University also provides a variety of cross-disciplinary, combined, and accelerated degrees.

Western New England University is ranked #113 in Top Performers on Social Mobility, according to the recent evaluation by the US News and World Report. The University takes great pride in the accomplishments of its more than 4,800 alumni living and working around the world. More than 48,000 people have graduated from Western New England University, with more than 8,000 of them having graduated from the School of Law. Despite the fact that alumni live in all 50 states and 48 countries around the world, they maintain close ties to the institution by contributing to Annual Fund, mentoring current students, and hiring graduates.

The university is home to 3,647 students including international students hailng from 22 countries across the world. Around 58% of full-time students are men and 42% are women. About 56% of full-time students live on campus to become involved members of our community. enriching the living and learning community and serving as global ambassadors for a unique educational experience.
