The University of Latvia, initially named as the Higher School of Latvia was founded on September 28, 1919, on the basis of the former Riga Polytechnic (founded in 1862). It’s affiliation is with Campus Europae, Utrecht Network, EUA, UNICA, IAU, AUF, Talloires, Educause. It ranked #1537 in world rank and #1 in national rank. The University of Latvia is ranked in the 801-1000 bracket in World University Rankings 2019 by the Times Higher Education (THE) Rankings. The university ranks 50th in EECA (Emerging Europe and Central Asia) Ranking and 7th in Baltic countries.

The University of Latvia has established a modern academic centre with state-of-the-art facilities and infrastructure for students and teachers. The University of Latvia has its campus located in the city of Riga in Latvia. The university student union actively organizes events for students all year round offering the students a great social life within the campus. The University of Latvia comprises thirteen faculties offering a wide range of programs. The faculties are Medicine, Law, History and Philosophy, Geography and Earth sciences, Education, Psychology and Arts, Business, Economics and Management, Physics, Mathematics and Optometry, Chemistry, Biology, Computing, Theology, Social Sciences, and Humanities.
Accomplishments and Alumni
University of Latvia has produced some of the famous alumni, such as Valdis Dombrovskis (European Commissioner for Economic and Monetary Affairs and former Prime Minister of Latvia)and Ivars Godmanis, (Former Prime Minister of Latvia).
