The College of Maynooth was established by the Government as a college for Catholic lay and ecclesiastical students in 1795. The College became a recognised college of the National University of Ireland in 1910 and finally was rebranded as the Maynooth University in 2014. It has been affiliated with the European universities Association, National Universities of Ireland, Irish Universities Association, and Universities Ireland. QS World Rankings have given it a world rank in the range #751-800. Times higher Education Rankings have given it a ranking in the range of #501-600. US News & World Report have given it a global ranking of #1198.
The university's main campus covers the main road from Maynooth to Kilcock. The Campus is then divided into North and South Campus. The campus has four buildings for on-campus accommodation, namely Rye, Village, River, and Courtyard. The university is divided into three faculties, Arts, Celtic Studies and Philosophy, Science and Engineering, and Social Sciences. The University has a total of 30 departments offering courses in a plethora of fields.
Since its establishment, Maynooth University has had a long road of History and Accomplishments. In 2008, Maynooth University occupied fourth place on the Irish Sunday Times University League Table 2008, the newspaper's annual league table of Irish third-level institutions. In 2010, MU recorded the highest growth in first preference school-leaver applications in the university sector. Many Notable Alumni like Noel Dempsey (TD and Cabinet Minister), Cornelius Denvir (mathematician, natural philosopher, and Bishop), and Gerald Molloy (theologian and physicist) have graduated through the Maynooth university.
Maynooth university hosts more than 2,700 International students every year. The University has an extensive International program in which it has partnered with multiple International universities for exchange programs and international exposure for students. The University also offers extensive career services to all the graduating students, helping them in creating resumes, writing cover letters, practicing for interviews, and organizing career fairs for all the students to meet the employers.
