Established in 1960, the University of California San Diego is a public land-grant university situated in the La Jolla district of northern San Diego, California, between the communities of La Jolla Shores, Torrey Pines, and University City. The university has sporting affiliations with NCAA Division I - Big West, Mountain Pacific Sports Federation, and Western Water Polo Association.  According to the 2018 edition of the QS World University Rankings, the University of California, San Diego (also known as UC San Diego) is one of the top 20 universities in the United States. In the QS Global World Ranking 2021, the University of California San Diego is ranked #54. UCSD is ranked 6th in the country among public institutions, 21st in the globe, and 11th in the country overall in computer science. UCSD's engineering programme is ranked 7th among public universities in the US, 12th overall, and 54th in the world. UC San Diego consistently ranks among the best universities in the world by major college and university rankings. 

Infrastructure, Campuses and Courses

UC San Diego is one of the US Public Ivy colleges, whose aim is to provide quality education to the students that can be found in Ivy League private colleges. The University of California's main campus is located near the Pacific Ocean on approximately 1,200 acres in size. 761 buildings and 889 acres of nature reserves make up the main campus, which spans 1,152 acres. UC San Diego is the seventh oldest of the University of California's ten campuses. Seven residential colleges, as well as three graduate schools and two professional medical schools, comprise the University of California. Rady School of Management, Scripps Institution of Oceanography, School of Global Policy and Strategy, UC San Diego School of Medicine and Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences are the five academic divisions of UC San Diego. The university provides 125 courses under undergraduate programs which are categorized into 6 departments, namely Engineering, Biological Sciences, Physical Sciences, Mathematics and Arts, and Humanities. Accomplishments and Alumni 

The university has actively sought to reduce carbon emissions and energy usage on campus, earning a "gold" sustainability performance rating in the Sustainability Tracking Assessment and Rating System (STARS) survey. It was also lauded for its strong dedication to sustainability in its academic programmes, campus infrastructure, activities, and job preparation in The Princeton Review's Guide to 322 Green Colleges: 2013 Edition. Over 200,000 graduates from all over the world are connected through the alumni network, including the 15 winners of the Nobel Prize associated with UCSD. The university also includes winners of the MacArthur Genius Grant, Pulitzer Prize, Tony Award, Grammy Award, Guggenheim Fellowship, and others. Arika Sato, a television personality, Nick Woodman, the founder of GoPro, and Mike Judge, a TV writer, are among the notable alumni.
