History, Affiliations and Rankings

Established in 1870, St John’s University is a private Catholic university established by the Vincentian Community. The institute was named after John Loughlin, the first Roman Catholic Bishop of Brooklyn. In 1906, the institute got university status and today, it stands for a leading global and metropolitan University which has one of the Highest Student-Mobility Rates in the United States. St John’s University has affiliations with the Association of Catholic Colleges and Universities (ACCU), Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools (Middle States Association or MSA), and the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities (NAICU). St John’s University ranks #172 in US News and Report National Universities Ranking 2022. 

Infrastructure, Campuses and Courses

St John's University has a total of four campuses in New York, namely, the Queen's campus, the Staten Island campus, the Manhattan campus, and the Hauppauge campus. The Queen's campus of St John's University spreads across an area of 105 acres. It has traditional stone buildings, ultra-modern accommodation halls, high-tech laboratories, classroom buildings, a library, and a state-of-the-art athletic arena. St John's University has six colleges, i.e. College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, Peter & Tobin College of Business, the School of Education, School of Law, College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, and College of Professional Studies. Students always have the option to choose from more than 100 courses of study taught by a team of excellent faculty members. There are over 100 programs of study, including accelerated Bachelor's degrees, combined Bachelor's and Master's apart from traditional degree programs - BA, BS, BFA, MA, MS, MBA, PhD and other Doctorate programs. 

Accomplishments and Alumni 

St John's University ranks #1 in the Catholic Institution in the United States on the list of colleges with the highest rate of student mobility. The programs provided at distinct schools at St John's University are recognized for excellence at both the Undergraduate and Master’s levels. Students and faculty at this University have secured over 86 Fulbright Awards till date. The University has more than 150,000 alumni found around the world. According to St John University's data, 94.3% of alumni of St John's University find employment within 6 months of the completion of their studies. The notable alumni of the institute are - Mario Cuomo, the 52nd Governor of New York, Raymond Kelly, former and longest-serving Commissioner of the New York City Police Department, and Hugh Carey, American attorney, the 51st Governor of New York from 1975 to 1982, and a seven-term United States Representative.

St John’s University has about 21,000 students on-campus out of which 16,400 are undergraduates and 4,600 are postgraduates. St John’s University has about 1,150 international students on-campus. The male to female ratio is 43:57 at St John’s University. Further, 3,426 students reside on the University campus and constitute a vibrant, multicultural community. There are plenty of activities to get involved in on the campus, including 180+ student clubs and organizations. The Student Development Center of the University offers services for the student’s personal growth, leadership development, decision-making and critical thinking skills which prepares them for taking on successful professional careers. Being at St. John’s allows students to make professional connections and intern at some of the biggest corporations in New York City, including at Madison Square Garden, Estee Lauder, Morgan Stanley, New York Mets and others.
