History, Affiliations and Rankings
Tan Chin Tiong, the president of SIT at the time, launched the university in 2009. He has previously served as Singapore Management University's deputy president. Tan left his position as president of SIT in 2013 and returned to Singapore Management University as a professor and advisor. The Singapore Institute of Technology was established in 2009 to give polytechnic graduates more chances to pursue further education. Singapore University of Technology is ranked #453 in Best Global Universities.
Infrastructure, Campuses and Courses
An independent institution in Singapore called SIT provides comprehensive work-study degrees together with applied learning opportunities. The main campus of the institution is situated in Dover at 10 Dover Drive, Singapore. The other five campuses are spread across the five nearby polytechnics. In Punggol, Singapore, near to the brand-new Punggol Coast MRT station, SIT will open a new central campus in 2023. From its initial batch of 500 students in ten-degree programmes, SIT has expanded to include approximately 6,000 students from SIT and ten partner universities abroad in 43-degree programmes. Five clusters have been established for these degree programmes: Engineering (ENG), Chemical Engineering and Food Technology (CEFT), Infocomm Technology (ICT), Health and Social Sciences (HSS), and Design and Specialized Businesses (DSB). The institution confers its own degree programmes as well as specialized degree programmes with foreign universities. It also offers industry-focused, applied degree programmes.
Accomplishments and Alumni
SIT was officially made the 5th public university just like NUS and NTU by the government in 2014. SUTD or Singapore University of Technology and Design is a niche university and was the 4th public university. UniSIM or the local offering of SIM is the 6th. Some of the notable alumni of the Singapore Institute of Technology are Chairman – Chua Pei Jing, Vice-Chair – Chua Guan Feng, Secretary – Eldrynn Trishan Tan Swee Yong and Treasurer – Winnie Teu Bu Zhi.
Student Diversity and Visiting Companies
At Singapore Institute of Technology, although the population ratio of males versus females is almost equal, students from all over the world come to this university. Many reputed companies come to this university for placement. Some of them are EY, DBS Bank, Accenture, NCS Group and Singapore armed forces.
