History, Affiliations, and Rankings

The school was sponsored by the Pennsylvania State Agricultural Society and founded as a degree-granting institution on February 22, 1855, by Pennsylvania's state legislature as the Farmers' High School of Pennsylvania. In 1862, the school's name was changed to the Agricultural College of Pennsylvania, and with the passage of the Morrill Land Grant Acts, Pennsylvania selected the school in 1863 to be the state's sole land-grant college. It has been affiliated with The Association of American Universities, CDIO Initiative, Centre For Research Libraries, Oak Ridge Associated Universities, University Corporation for Atmospheric Research, Universities Research Association, National Sea-Grant Program, Space Grant Colleges, and Sun-Grant Association. QS World Rankings have given it a global ranking of 96. Times Higher Education has given it a rank of 114 Globally. US News & World Report has given it a rank of 80 in Best Global Universities.

Infrastructure, Campuses, and Courses

The Pennsylvania State University has a total of 24 campuses throughout the state of Pennsylvania. The University Park campus has been labelled one of the "Public Ivies," a publicly funded university considered as providing a quality of education comparable to those of the Ivy League. Penn State has eighteen colleges, including three at special-mission campuses. The University Park campus is organized into fourteen distinct colleges, plus the Graduate School and the Division of Undergraduate Studies. Penn State offers courses and programs in Agricultural Sciences, Arts & Architecture, Business, Communications, Education, Engineering, and many more.

Since its establishment 167 years ago, Penn State University has had a long road of History and Accomplishments. Penn State is a top-ranked research university and Pennsylvania's sole land-grant institution, founded with a mission of high-quality teaching, expert research, and global service. Penn State World Campus is No. 2 for its bachelor’s degree programs in business and psychology and is tied for No. 2 for graduate industrial engineering programs. Many Notable Alumni like Mark Parker (former president-CEO of Nike, Inc), Keegan-Michael Key (actor, comedian, writer), and Terry Pegula (billionaire businessman and owner of the Buffalo Bills) have graduated through Penn State University.

Over 16% of the Student Body of Pennsylvania State University comprises International Students. More than 11,000 students from over 130 countries attend the University every year. It is from a total of more than 98,000 students. The Career Service Center of Pennsylvania State University offers many resources to the students and alumni for connecting with potential employers and creating a better CV and a resume.
