History, Affiliations and Rankings
Navitas was established in 1994, and was formerly known as IBT education. They recognized the gap in the education sector, that international students being equally capable to the domestic students were failing in their programs. In 2000, Navitas partnered with various universities in the UK. In 2007, IBT education changed its name to Navitas. In 2019, The University of Leicester and Navitas signed a new partnership agreement with Navitas to offer international students with pathway programs and foundation years to study at the University of Leicester through the Global Study Center. The Leicester Global Study Center offers flexible entry points to various Undergraduate programs at the University of Leicester along with providing additional support throughout a student’s academic journey, in order to maintain the academic quality.
Infrastructure, Campuses and Courses
The Leicester Global Study Centre is situated minutes away from the main University of Leicester campus. Students at LGSC have access to all campus facilities, and are considered part of the campus community. The Leicester University campus, situated near the City Centre and adjacent to Victoria Park, features historic buildings and futuristic technology-equipped classrooms and laboratories. Global Study Centre students will have access to the state-of-the-art David Wilson Library, Botanic Gardens, two Sports Centres and other facilities. The Leicester Global Study Center offers Foundation Years and Pathways Programs to offer alternative entry routes to demanding University of Leicester degree programs. Primarily, four subject areas are on-offer, namely, Economics and Management, Engineering and Technology, Sciences and Society and Culture. In addition, the Centre offers English Language lessons for international students to meet the language proficiency requirements for the University of Leicester. The LGSC programs equip students for degree coursework, and having finished a program at the LGSC, students typically enter the program at the University of Leicester and finish their undergraduate degree.
Accomplishments and Alumni
Navitas is the biggest private non-university higher education provider in Australia. Navitas offers a pivotal part in various disadvantaged students' lives, to give a second chance to those who did not have direct access to traditional higher education programs abroad. This, combined the resources offered by the University of Leicester makes for an exception induction to University studies that has benefitted international students. The University of Leicester is 11th in the UK for producing CEOs, and is among the top 25 universities in the UK targeted by employers. Some of the notable alumni are Natalie Bennett, former leader of the Green Party of England and Wales, Atifete Jahjaga, President of Kosovo, and Jyrki Katainen, Prime Minister of Finland.
Student Diversity and Visiting Companies
Students from all over the globe, who could not fulfill the eligibility criteria at the University of Leicester, have the option to study at the institute. The students here are from quite diverse backgrounds at the institute. Leicester itself is one of the most diverse and student-friendly cities in the UK, where students will always have something to keep themselves engaged, both on and off-campus. Students are provided with a well-rounded study experience that equips them for University studies and beyond. There are opportunities for Sports and Wellbeing, Festivals and Events, Food and Drinks, travel experiences and more. The Diwali Celebrations at the University of Leicester are one of the biggest outside of India, with more than 35,000 students attending the event annually. Typically, after graduating from LSGC, students proceed to Undergraduate studies at the University.
