History, Affiliations and Rankings

Copenhagen Business School (CBS) is a public university in Copenhagen, Denmark, that is widely regarded as one of the most renowned business schools in Western Europe and the globe. The Danish Society for the Advancement of Business Education and Research (FUHU) founded CBS in 1917, but it wasn't until 1920 that accounting became a full study subject at CBS. CBS is recognized by EQUIS (European Quality Improvement System), AMBA (Association of MBAs), and AACSB (Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business), making it one of just a few schools in the world to possess the "triple crown" and one of only two in Denmark, along with Aarhus BSS. According to the QS World University Rankings 2021, the university is ranked #64 and placed between #201-250 as per US News & World Report.

Infrastructure, Campuses and Courses

CBS is an urban university with four modern buildings in Frederiksberg, close to Copenhagen's city centre. Solbjerg Plads, the main complex, opened in 2000 and comprises 34,000 square meters of student and business space surrounded by gardens and an outdoor living area. The oldest structure in use is Dalgas Have, which opened in 1989 and was built by Henning Larsen Architects. Kilen (The Wedge) was inaugurated in 2006, has 10,000 meters of student classrooms, study spaces, and research and administration offices. The Danish Society for the Advancement of Business Education has leased Porcelaenshaven, the fourth main building on the CBS campus, to CBS. They offer a wide selection of economics and business administration university degrees. Other programs integrate business studies with social sciences and the humanities to provide education in areas such as Information Technology, Philosophy, Politics, Language, Sociology, and Communication. CBS offers 18 bachelor's degree programs in Business Administration and international business communication, eight of which are taught in English and 10 in Danish. CBS offers 39 master's programs in Social Science, Business Administration, Economics, International Business Communication, Language and Culture, and other fields, with eleven taught in English and twenty-eight taught in Danish.

Accomplishments and Alumni

CBS has had a global development and internationalization strategy for more than two decades, which it intends to continue in the coming years. The school encourages interdisciplinary cooperation through what it terms "Business in Society Platforms" which focus on sustainability, public-private partnerships, competitiveness, entrepreneurship, and maritime challenges. It also promotes an international perspective by offering 200 English-language courses and having exchange relationships with other colleges. CBS is home to well-known alumni such as Soren Skou (CEO of Maersk), Jakob Ellemann (Jensen - Member of the Danish Folketing), Pernille Weiss (Member of the European Parliament).

Student Diversity and Visiting Companies

Copenhagen Business School aspires to be a world-leading business institution with teaching and research expertise in traditional management disciplines as well as disciplines that position the business in a larger social, political, and cultural context, thanks to its diversity. Currently, CBS has around 20,000 students and 2,000 employees. It also takes pride in having close ties with the business community. For example, KPMG, Google, Deloitte, and Maersk are among its partners, and its president reports to a board of directors composed of corporate leaders as well as an academic council.
